One honest note about SHIP so your expectations are set: counselors are often volunteers, demand spikes hard every fall, and they explain options rather than manage the paperwork end-to-end. It is a fantastic resource, and around the Annual Enrollment Period you may wait for an appointment.

Based in Lexington, BGAAAIL is the region's front door for aging services across 17 counties: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott, and Woodford. It delivers local SHIP counseling and much more: caregiver support, home-delivered meals, homecare programs, and benefits screening. Lexington Senior Center
Fayette County's hub for residents 60 and older, at 195 Life Lane, Lexington, KY 40502 (off Nicholasville Road). Beyond activities and meals, the center connects members to benefits counseling and hosts Medicare education programs, especially in the weeks before fall enrollment. If getting out of the house and talking to a person matters to you, this is the friendly option.

Medicare's own Plan Finder at Medicare.gov shows every Advantage and drug plan sold in your county, and the phone line runs 24/7. When a question is about your specific claims, premiums, or enrollment records, this is the authoritative source. The trade-off: the person answering is reading from the same national screens for a caller in Alaska, and cannot tell you which plans keep you in-network at UK or Baptist.

These are not counseling services; they are programs that lower your bill, and applying costs nothing:

Is help from a Medicare agent really free?
